Meraj Ahmed is a freelance event organizer living in Barguna, Barisal. He was actively looking for a second job until he stumbled upon Facebook Income.

Income is a distribution company exclusively for digital products and services bringing promising digital products (educational videos, skill development courses, health services etc.) to the market. The platform allows its users to distribute those products for a sales commission.

“The terms and conditions and policies of Income are quite easy to understand and adapt to. So I registered myself and became an agent of Income on the same day,” says Meraj.

In Income, every agent/affiliate who earns commission for marketing the products of another person or company is called ‘Digital Entrepreneur’ (Digital Entrepreneur).

“All we have to do is get new customers for the service [of different companies] They sell on this platform. For example, if I am hired to sell digital course materials, I look around for potential customers. When they agree to buy the course, I send them my customized link through which they can purchase,” Meraj explains, adding, “With every purchase, I get a 10%-15% commission in my account.”

Meraz now earns Rs 2,000 to 2,500 in any given week. He also led Barisal’s digital initiative team.

As the world moves towards digitalization and the informal economy of Bangladesh is growing tremendously. Income saw an opportunity to integrate the two to create a service that benefits everyone in the ecosystem.

Income is open for business to any person (who can act as an agent) or platform (who can act as an affiliate or partner). For example, Go Global is an international admissions and visa processing platform. They provide career counseling to students going abroad for higher education.

Imtiaz Bin Habib, assistant manager of business development at Go Global, explained how their sales increased after joining Income.

“Career Counseling is our popular service. Earlier, we used to market it only through Facebook and Google ads. These ads definitely gave us a huge reach, but not even 1% of them made it to the actual customer list. On the other hand, the reach we get through income agents It is almost 100% efficient, which gives us good business,” Imtiaz told The Business Standard.

If revenue keeps pace with its growth, Imtiaz plans to invest the bulk of his company’s marketing spend in revenue over the coming years.

Gaps in digital infrastructure

A study by Statistica.com found that ad spending in Bangladesh’s digital advertising market is expected to reach $305 million this year. Companies are spending over Rs 1,000 crore every year on digital marketing on Facebook and Google alone to reach their target audience.

“All this money is our money, our people’s money. It’s sad how we have to give it to global tech giant companies for the sake of marketing. Recognizing this, we wanted to create a platform that would enable and do efficient digital advertising. Make money circulate within the country. ,” said Feroz Uddin Ahmed, COO, Income.

Also, with demand for digital products increasing and population shifting online, there is an absence of a digital distribution infrastructure for digital products.

“We have a plethora of resale platforms for physical products (Daraj, Amazon, eBay etc.), but the digital distribution market is still untapped,” explains Feroze.

“Through Income, we are not only accelerating access to digital products among the masses but also creating income opportunities for people with limited or no income,” said Khalid Hussain, co-founder of Income.
