Elon Musk became the CEO of the United Nations this year.
Some even say that it is the largest in the world.
He is involved in companies that are at the center of technological innovation such as Tesla (TSLA) – Get a free report and SpaceX. And he has Twitter (TWTR) – Get a free reportconsidered a city square in our time.
Musk is just a star CEO. He is one of the bosses who can claim more than 100 million followers on Twitter. Musk’s personality is divisive, and the passion is stirring. People are either anti-Musk or fans.
But to say the least, the billionaire’s every word is closely scrutinized. His statement is the subject of media articles. In 2022, no other CEO was eclipsed by Musk.
Each appearance is given a comment. Analysis of each word. Apart from being considered a visionary, the serial entrepreneur is also one of the richest men in the world. Until recently he was the richest man in the world before being overtaken by French businessman Bernard Arnault who is also CEO of luxury group LVMH. (LVMUY) .
Musk is a rock star. He is loved by ardent fans. The progressive wing of the Democratic Party doesn’t like Twitter’s laissez-faire approach to content policy. For him, who describes himself as a “freedom of speech absolutist”, any tweet can be posted on the platform as long as it does not violate the law. But this means that xenophobic and anti-Semitic messages are tolerated because they do not violate US law. This is the criticism of many critics who believe that there are limits to freedom of speech.
However, there is one thing that unites Musk’s critics and fans, and that is the billionaire’s attractiveness. Having him as a guest at an event ensures massive publicity and unparalleled coverage of the event.
‘but rejected’
That is why the organizers of one of the biggest events in the world are planning to have him as a guest speaker. One of the most powerful gatherings in the world is the World Economic Forum, known as the summit in Davos, Switzerland.
Business leaders, activists and other politicians meet in January every year except during the covid-19 pandemic. Every CEO of a company that matters wants to be invited and especially to be part of the list of guest speakers. Apparently not Musk.
The tech mogul just announced that he was not speaking at this event.
“I was invited to WEF, but declined,” Musk said on December 24.
This message from the billionaire attracted a lot of comments from Twitter users, who seemed to appreciate Musk’s refusal to go to the WEF.
“Create another Forum and call it ‘World Stability Forum’,” suggested one Twitter user.
“Good! Because the WEF is SO FREQUENT!” added another user.
“It’s a capitalist institution lmao,” said another Twitter user.
Called the “meeting of the world’s owners”, the WEF was born fifty years ago to make world leaders reflect together on the state of the earth. The concept is simple: the world’s most important economic and political leaders meet at the end of January in Davos, Switzerland.
For a few days, political leaders, CEOs, economists and journalists from around the world met in the cold of Davos, a resort in the Swiss Alps, to to speak through conferences, workshops and dinners, with the goal: “Improving the state. of the world.”
The intention has always been to get the powerful to think in an increasingly globalized world, and for them to grow their networks and bring their experiences.
This year, the WEF was held in May, breaking tradition, due to Covid-19.
As the 2023 edition approaches, the question of the future of the WEF has never been greater: Is the forum still relevant?
Some critics go further: how to think about economic and political power on a global scale apart from the State and businessmen?
