Law enforcement sources confirmed to ABC News that the man who allegedly attacked and wounded three New York City police officers with a machete is a Maine teenager. Sources identified the suspect as Trevor Bickford, 19, of Wells. According to the NYPD, Bickford allegedly struck two of the officers in the head with a machete, severing one of their heads and fracturing the skull of the other. All three officers were taken to a hospital and are expected to recover. Police said one of the officers shot Bickford in the shoulder. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. The attack on the officers is being investigated as a possible terrorist incident because of online postings and the manner of the attack by the 19-year-old suspect, law enforcement sources told ABC News . The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force is working with the NYPD to investigate the attack. A flurry of activity was seen just after 6 pm Sunday outside a home on Alpine Drive in Wells that neighbors of Bickford’s home confirmed. Several cars pull into the home’s driveway and FBI agents can be seen entering the home, carrying some items and taking pictures. The attack happened just blocks away from Manhattan’s crowded New Year’s Eve ball drop celebration, but outside the secured area, according to the NYPD. The NYPD shared a photo of the blade allegedly used in the attack. New York City Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell said there is no active threat to the public. Law enforcement sources said Bickford boarded an Amtrak train from Maine to New York City on Dec. 19. It’s a developing story. Maine’s Total Coverage is working to learn more information.
