Vanilla Ice is reminiscent of Madonna’s 1990s debut.
“Things were going so crazy and fast, man,” the rapper recalled of their whirlwind relationship Tuesday on the “Just Jenny with Jenny Hut” podcast.
“I was like, ‘What?! I thought that man was wanted [get down on one knee],’” he added. “‘What do you mean? Wait a minute. This is too fast. I’m just starting out here and I’m too young for this!'”
“The more I thought about it, the crazier it was,” noted the 55-year-old, whose real name is Robert Matthew Van Winkle.
The former couple dated for eight months after meeting in late 1991.
When Vanilla Ice first crossed paths with the Queen of Pop, now 64, he didn’t think the connection was “real” because she was “too old” for him.
“I remember she came back in the dressing room and said hello to me, and she gave me some kind of sexy eyes, and I was like … I must be wrong about that,” the “Ice Ice Baby” singer said.
He called their romance “weird,” adding, “I didn’t know what was going on. … My whole life has snowed … shaken.”
Regarding the end of their relationship, Vanilla Ice claimed that they broke up over Madonna’s book “Sex”, which was published in 1992.
“I thought it was very slutty. I didn’t want to be a part of it,” he admitted. “I could have sued her. I didn’t want to. I … ‘You go your way and I’ll go mine'”
The “Vanilla Ice Project” host, who later called her ex a “legend” in an interview, moved on with Laura Gerritta. The two were married from 1997 to 2016 and have daughters Dusty, 25, and Keely, 23.
Vanilla Ice went on to welcome 3-year-old daughter Priscilla with another woman in 2018.
As for Madonna, the Grammy winner has been married twice. She married actor Sean Penn in 1985 and director Guy Ritchie in 2000.
The “Like a Virgin” singer, who was last romantically linked to model Andrew Darnell, is a mother of six.
Madonna shares daughter Lourdes, 26, and son Rocco, 22, with Carlos Leon and Richie, respectively. She adopted son David, 17, daughter Mercy, 17, and twin daughters Stella and Esther, 10.
